App preferences

Settings in the top navigation holds preferences for how the web app looks and behaves. They are personal display settings: nothing here changes what is collected or what other people see.

These are per browser. QueryPilot has no user accounts yet (Roadmap), so preferences are stored in the browser’s local storage under querypilot.preferences.v1 and do not follow you to another device. Per-database settings such as plan capture, environment and tags live on the database’s own Settings tab instead.

Option Effect
System Follows the operating system’s light or dark setting, and switches when that changes.
Light Always light.
Dark Always dark.

The theme is applied before the page is painted, so a dark theme never flashes light first. The icon button next to Settings cycles system → light → dark.

Option Default Effect
Time zone UTC Timestamps, chart axes and tooltips are shown in UTC or in your browser’s local time. Collected data and the API always use UTC.
Relative times On “7 minutes ago” instead of an exact timestamp. The exact time is always in the tooltip.

Server-rendered pages start in UTC and switch to your preference once the page loads, so the two never disagree mid-render.

Option Default Effect
Default time range Last hour Applied to pages with a time window when the link does not specify one. A shared link keeps the range it was shared with.
Auto-refresh Off Re-fetches charts and lists every 30 seconds, minute or 5 minutes. Paused while the tab is in the background.

Reset to defaults restores every preference on this page.
